Presenter ( Cassandra Giba-White)
Through the Thunder Bay Friendship Centre I learned more about my culture and the Friendship Centre Movement. I became involved in youth led initiatives and for the first time I felt empowered. I found my passion and pride in the leadership done by the urban aboriginal youth in my home community and across the country. Being a part of different youth led initiatives and having the support of other youth leaders has allowed me to feel empowered as a young indigenous woman and to have pride in my identity. It has given me the necessary tools and life skills on my journey to Geraldton, ON as a front line worker at the Thunderbird Friendship Centre. I continue to grow from my experience within the Friendship Centre Movement by creating the safe space for young indigenous children to learn from their experiences and to have pride in their identity.
